The Lower Moons are the weaker tier of the Twelve Demon Moons, with the Lower Six being the weakest.

The Lower Moons

The Twelve Kizuki (in Japanese: Jūnikizuki, literally translated as the Twelve Demon Moons) is the main antagonistic faction of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba manga and anime. They are a group of twelve powerful Demons under Muzan Kibutsuji’s command, who have all been given a portion of his blood which has augmented their powers.

The Twelve Demon Moons are divided into two groups, the Upper Ranks and the Lower Ranks. Each has their number engraved into their eye, with the Lower Rank members having it in only one, whereas Upper-Rank members have it in both. The members of the Twelve Kizuki fluctuate, and Muzan can replace them or even kill them once he thinks it’s necessary.

Latest (all deceased)

One – Enmu

Two – Rokuro

Three – Wakuraba

Four – Mukago

Five – Rui

Six – Kamanue

Former

One – Ubume (deceased)

Two – Hairo (deceased)

Six – Kyogai (deceased)

After the demise of Kyogai and later Rui, the Lower Moon Five, Muzan was frustrated by the Lower Moon’s constant failures. He called the Lower Moon One, Two, Three, Four, and the current Six to a meeting, rebuking them and believing he no longer needed the Lower Moons. As a result, Muzan started to kill the Two, Three, Four, and Six one by one, as they respectively were begging for Muzan’s blood, trying to deny Muzan’s opinion and trying to think about flattering his master.

Former Lower Moon Six: Kyogai

Kyogai, also known as the Drum Demon, is a supporting antagonist in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba anime and manga series. He was the former Lower rank six of the Twelve Kizuki until he was exiled by Muzan Kibutsuji due to his weakness. He later went on a quest to reclaim his title. He serves as the main antagonist of the Drum House Arc.

Kyogai got excommunicated for being too weak yet showed more prowers than four of the six lower moons, who were wiped away like flies by Muzan. He had the ability to use the six drums embedded in his body that could rotate the room he was in, disorienting those who came against him. It’s an ability that always gave him a home-field advantage, making him a tough battle for Tanjiro and company during the Tsuzumi Mansion Arc.

Lower Moon 6: Kamanue

Kamanue is the new Lower Moon 6 after the Kyogai. Not much is known about Kamanue as he was killed off by Muzan almost immediately on his appearance in the Infinite castle.

Lower Moon 5: Rui

Rui Ayaki, better known as Rui, is a supporting antagonist in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba and the main antagonist in its Natagumo Mountain Arc. Rui was the first appearance of a real Kizuki, a member of Muzan’s Twelve Demon Moons. Using his Blood Demon Arts, Rui trapped other low-level demons in his web on Mt. Natagumo, transforming and holding them prisoner as a family of spider demons. Although being the no. 5 of the Lower Moon, it was later revealed that his true power was much greater.

Ranking at Lower Moon Five, Rui caused a good bit of trouble for Tanjiro and Nezuko, pushing them to their limit and drawing out their latent abilities. Even with the help of their ancestors, Tanjiro and Nezuko were only able to hang on by a blood-red thread until the Water Hashira Giyu Tomioka shows up.

Lower Moon 4: Mukago

Mukago is a minor antagonist in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. She is a demon and the Lower Moon Four, as well as Muzan Kibutsuji’s servant.

Mukago’s past life is unknown, besides she was turned into a demon by Muzan, and had been eating humans afterward. During the meeting in Infinity Castle, Muzan appears before them and makes them kneel. Mukago utters she’s sorry to have been ordered to bow, which causes Muzan to say that she doesn’t permit to talk.

Despite being a demon, Mukago is truly a coward at heart, as she had no intention of fighting the Demon Slayers, which makes Muzan view her as useless.

Lower Moon 3:Wakuraba

Wakuraba was the Demon who had the rank Lower Moon 3. He was only shown in the Infinity Castle when called the Muzan Kibutsuji. He was also the third demon killed by Muzan.

Lower Moon 2: Rokuro

Rokuro was the Demon who had the rank Lower Moon 2. He was only shown in the Infinity Castle when called the Muzan Kibutsuji. As the rank goes higher, the Twelve Kizuki and their abilities get stronger too. Judging from this fact, Rokoro had too strong. But he dies along with other Lower Moon members.

Lower Moon 1: Enmu

As Lower Rank 1, Enmu was the strongest Lower Rank and closest to matching the strength of the Upper Ranks. Upon receiving more blood from Muzan in the castle, his power and abilities were further enhanced. Enmu was the primary antagonist in the Mugen Train Arc of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. However, as seen from his defeat at the hands of Tanjiro and Inosuke, he’s nowhere near the level of an Upper-Rank Demon and so pales in comparison to the likes of Daki, Gyutaro, and Kaigaku, the least among the Upper Rank.

As a member of the Twelve Kizuki, Enmu harbors an extremely high concentration of Muzan Kibutsuji’s blood in him, which enhances and augments his movement speed as well as his physical and mental reaction time and reflexes. This is shown during his battle against Tanjiro Kamado in the movie adaptation, where he was able to dodge and react to every single one of Tanjiro’s attacks with little effort, even moving so fast that he had trouble keeping up.

Enmu’s Demon Blood Art enabled him to put people to sleep and enter their dreams, soothe his victims to their deaths. He employs this technique by hijacking a train, putting all of its passengers to sleep, and then killing someone by destroying their “Spiritual Core” inside the dream, effectively destroying their mind and leaving their body as an empty shell.
